Mooting in Kenya, and the East African region has majorly been based on Human Rights, Extractives, Criminal Law, and Tax matters. There has not been adequate focus on purely Alternative Dispute Resolution questions, specifically mediation. To this extent, it is imperative that due focus be placed on this area of law to ensure the primary concern is addressed.
In that regard, the colloquium has been integrated with the 2nd edition of the Annual SDRC Mediation Moot Court Competition, which will attract student participation from Universities across Africa. The competition aims to address the significant inadequate awareness and understanding surrounding ADR, despite its proven efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness in dispute resolution. As such, the competition will seek to create awareness, encourage collaboration, promote fundamental ADR skills, and foster research and innovation among students.
